Samsung SPH 9200; Best UMPC design EVER?

The SPH P9200 makes other Samsung UMPC’s look like garbage…

The way the P9200 opens is hard to explain so maybe this will help…

The P7200 will have the following specs:

  • Windows XP
  • Via C7-M processor (BS, but maybe you need to look at the design again)
  • 30 GB hard drive
  • 1.3 megapixel camera
  • WiFi
  • WiMAX
  • Sim Card slot (hopefully with built in GSM line… but most likely only for data)
  • 5 inch touch display with a resolution of 800x 480

Some more Pics:

The P9200 can also be used like this:

The P9200 is no doubt an excellent UMPC. This being the first prototype explains the lack of good specs. However in the near future Samsung will definitly release another version with Windows Vista, better battery performance and a faster CPU. There is no word on Pricing or release data but we will keep you posted!!

Definately the best mobile device! I hate thumb devices with a passion! Finally someone realized that everyone uses laptops and what we really want is a laptop with a touch type keyboard compact enough to carry in a jacket pocket. It only took the industry what decades to realize something so obvious? daah….

I totally agree with you but I think the reason why it took so long is that before the technology wasn’t there to provide a FULL Windows OS on such a small form factor… I also hate thumb keyboards for an Ultra Mobile PC’s but I think its a must on any Windows Mobile device!!

A UMPC for normal people not geeks! It was about time someone realized most of us just want a touch type keyboard not a pen nor thumb input. Samsung shows you can be extremely creative yet still build it around what we are enjoy a keyboard! Sign me up, I’m ready to buy!

Unlike the bulky nich UMPC’s currently available this is one I could see deploying for my mobile account reps. This is the type of device that is needed for vertical business areas. Whomever provides a device like that in the US should do very well. I can see making an immediate change from laptops for my 100 or so reps if there was an alternative device like this.

UMPC’s are definitely the way of the future. You should check out the HTC Shift here:

It has far superior specs and will be available a lot sooner.

I really like the idea of the shift using both OS for the instant on and improved battery life I suspect? The only thing is that it is not jacket pocket size but it is very appealing for a device you must carry with the dual OS and wireless power.

The Samsung SPHP9200 is to me a much more desirable device because of how mobile you could be with one. Looking at the specs when folded it can fit into most jacket pockets so that is a HUGE difference.

I think that the integrated keyboard will just add bulk to the device.
If the UMPC has USB then you can easily carry one of these rubber roll-up keyboards which are very light and do not take up much space.
